Beginner’s Quilting – Quilting the Quilt
Enjoy a jammed-packed class of techniques to turn a small quilt top into a finished quilt. You will learn how to baste a quilt, tie or straight machine stitch the quilt layers together and how to bind your finished quilt. There will also be a demonstration of free-motion machine quilting and discuss labeling your finished quilt. Two Baby Eagles born on Assateague
The Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge has announced that two of three Eagle eggs have hatched. In the video below you can just make out the newly hatched eaglet getting food from the parent. The live feed isn’t online, but you can stop by the visitor center to watch the nest footage in person!
Waterpark Update
On March 6, 2017 in a 5-1 vote the Chincoteague Town Council approved a conditional use permit allowing the construction of a water park at Maddox Campground.
Over Sand Vehicle (OSV) zone changes…
On March 15, the Hook OSV zone closes & North OSV zone opens. OSV permit required.

New Restaurant
The Jackspot will reopen as Ropewalk this Spring. The Ropewalk is an open-air waterfront chain restaurant, with with locations in both Delaware and Maryland. Planned upgrades include the addition of sliding doors for an open-air dining experience, a barge bar on the water, a playground, cornhole boards and a fire pit. They are aiming to open Ropewalk, Chincoteague, in late April.
New Campground
The former “Maddox Campground” will reopen as “Chincoteague Island KOA” on Memorial Day.
Tales for Tots
The Chincoteague Island Library is hosting “Tales for Tots” every Thursday at 10 a.m. through May 25, 2017 (unless Accomack County Schools are closed or have a delayed opening). When Assateague was Home
The Museum of Chincoteague Island is extending and expanding its exhibit “When Assateague was Home”. All are welcome to view the updated exhibit when the Museum reopens in late March. The exhibit features personal memories, photographs, and artifacts relating to Assateague Village from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Museum is urgently asking anyone who has stories, memories, and/or artifacts (to loan or photograph) relating to Assateague Village to please contact us. Bingo for Seniors
The Chincoteague Cultural Alliance is starting Bingo for Seniors! Come out and enjoy an afternoon of fun and socializing. Games are only $.25 each. Win prizes from local restaurants and shops. Buyback Ponies will soon return to Assateague
Here is a quick video taken 3/12/2017, of the Buyback Ponies at the Carnival Grounds. They will be released back into the wild on Assateague during Spring roundup April 7-8. The entire heard on Assateague will be rounded up during that time for vet checks.
