“Name That Foal” Raffle 2022

December 8, 2022

Have you ever been a part of the history books? Here’s your chance to take part in the annual “Name That Foal Raffle”. If you win the raffle you will get naming rights for N2BHS-AIOU who is apart of the Chincoteague ponies. This is a beautiful chestnut filly who came into the fold in late May of 2022 in Assateague, Virginia.

Foal History

The AIA, in conjunction with the Assateague Island National Seashore, hosts the yearly raffle naming the newest foals in the herd. This year brings us the precious N2BHS-AIOU foal whose parents are quite the regal match. “Her dam is the chestnut mare N2BHS-AIO, ‘Mieke’s Noe’ lani’ and the probable sire is N9BFQ-GL, ‘Mr. Frisky Hooves’, a chestnut stallion.” (1)

Now I am sure you are wondering why the names of these ponies are so bizarre… It’s because in the 1970’s the National Park Service started assigning coded names so they could better identify the horses in the herd. It made it easier to track the family history of the ponies. This is a brilliant way to track the ponies but not a real name.

The AIA crafted this raffle to provide the ponies with a name and raise money for a great cause. It is a great way for you and your family to make some history at the beach! If you are within driving distance of the region you can observe N2BHS-AIOU. She is currently with her birth band roaming the Oversand Vehicle Zone (OSV) between KM 22-26, Fox Hills & Levels.

To conclude this important announcement you can get all the tickets for this raffle online by visiting here. The winning ticket will be drawn at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December, 16th.

Make History for a Worthy Cause

The fact of the matter is…this is for fun and raises money for a worthy cause. The AIA says that, “purchases are considered a donation and support AIA’s mission to promote the awareness, education, and stewardship of Assateague Island National Seashore’s wildlife and natural resources for the enjoyment of current and future generations.” So get in on the raffle and make some memories that you can revisit every year when you come to Chincoteague Bay for the pony swim!
