The Chincoteague Volunteer Firemen’s Carnival is an Island tradition dating back to 1924. After a string of disastrous fires, Chincoteague Island residents organized a volunteer fire company. The new fire company held a carnival during the annual Pony Penning (already an annual tradition) to raise funds for new equipment. The tradition has grown over the years and continues to this day!
The Chincoteague Carnival has something for everyone. It’s a place where locals gather to catch up with one another and visitors get to experience our quaint small town atmosphere. Kids get excited about the rides and games, while adults enjoy the food and live entertainment. Its an opportunity relax and take part in something reminiscent of a forgotten era, when life was simpler.
A large variety of food is available. Carnival pizza, clam and oyster fritters, pony fries, funnel cakes, and soft-serve ice cream are among the most popular. There are many rides and games for all ages. Live entertainment on the stage. Raffles, and BINGO too.
There will be fireworks shows for Independence Day and the closing night.
All proceeds benefit the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company.
