The 49th Annual Chincoteague Oyster Festival will be taking place on October 8th, 2022. The tagline for the event is “Celebrating Chincoteague ‘salts’ & the beginning of oyster season.” The Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce runs this event and does a great job. The event will sell out so don’t wait to get your tickets. Start planning for 2023 now!
Chincoteague Oyster Festival Details
The Chincoteague Oyster Festival marks the opening of oyster season and promotes the local seafood industry. The storied event showcases oysters, “raw, steamed, fritters, and single fried; clam fritters, clam chowder, shrimp cocktail, salad bar, hot dogs, hush puppies, and boardwalk fries.” (SOURCE)
Tickets are $55/each (kids 5 and under are free) and includes beverages and all you can eat seafood.
Please note that there is no guarantee of food being available until 4:00 p.m. so show up early and eat fast! Alcoholic beverages are available at the cash bar.
This event is supported by local businesses with nearly 50 sponsors from the Chincoteague Bay area. The gates open at 10:00 a.m. and the festival ends at 4:00 p.m.
The Chincoteague Oyster Festival takes place at Tom’s Cove Park located at 8128 Beebe Road, Chincoteague, Virginia.
In addition to the great food and location, there will be live music from the fan favorite “Island Boy” music group. They have been featured at the festival for 25 years! “An Extravaganza Raffle is held with the winner receiving t-shirts, tickets, lodging, gift certificates for meals, and much more for the following year’s festival. A favorite at the festival is the “Best Place/Space Award” which is given to the best decorated area. There will also be a variety of souvenirs available for purchase.” (SOURCE)
