Wildlife and nature cruises with Captain Pete Wallace

Cruises

Two and four-hour cruises in the protected waters around Merritt Island, Florida

321-446-8977

Join us on one of our adventures in the calm, protected, salt waters in and around the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and the beautiful, 1,000 Island area around Cocoa Beach. The Banana River Lagoon is home to one of the largest and most friendly populations of both dolphin and manatees in Florida.

The remote islands offer excellent opportunities for collecting seashells and the clean waters and sandy beaches are a great place to swim.

Your Captain, Boat, and Safety Equipment

Your adventure takes place on a stable, 24 ft. deck boat. We have comfortable, cushioned seats and a canopy top. The boat meets or exceeds all U.S. Coast Guard safety requirements and your captain is licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard to carry passengers for hire.

Captain Pete has been a licensed captain taking fishing trips and nature tours in both Cocoa Beach, Florida and Chincoteague, Virginia for more than 30 years. He has a perfect safety record and has even caught a fish or two during that time.

We take a maximum of 6 passengers so you will always have plenty of room and a good view. We can arrange for larger groups. We suggest wearing a hat and applying sunscreen—remember you are in the “Sunshine State.” If you plan on getting off on an island, you should wear some sort of waterproof foot protection and a bathing suit if you plan on taking a swim. Don’t forget your camera and fresh batteries.

Everything is supplied for fishing, including your fishing license. If you are lucky enough to catch some fish, clams, or crabs for dinner, you will need a container to take them home in.

Tours, Rates, & Directions

Adventure rates:

  • 2-hour trip: $35 adult, $27 for 12 and under
  • 4-hour trip: $59 per person
  • If you would like the boat to yourself, we offer charters for $85 per hour for up to five passengers.

On our 2-hour trips, most of the time is devoted to dolphin and manatees. There will be time to get off on an island, but if you are interested in fishing, time is usually limited to about 15 to 20 minutes. On 4-hour trips, you can often fish for a couple of hours, while others may explore the islands, swim, or just relax and enjoy the trip.

Reserve your trip by calling 321-446-8977

Reservations are required for all trips and must be paid for when you book with a Visa or Master Card. If you prefer to pay cash, we still need your credit card to reserve your trip. Payments are not refundable unless your captain cancels the trip due to weather conditions prior to sailing. In that case, your money will be fully refunded.

We depart from Kelly Park, located at 2550 North Banana River Drive, Merritt Island, Florida, 32952 Directions: Take Rt. 528 (the Beach Line) to exit 52 (Banana River Drive), go south on Banana River Dr. for approximately 100 yards. Turn left into the parking lot across from the BP gas station. Park your vehicle and walk to the harbor. If you have any questions, Capt. Pete can be reached at 757-894-8148.

A note about weather

Please remember that you are in the tropics. Sporadic rain downpours are common, especially in summer months. These showers are typically unpredictable and very short in duration. They are most likely to occur in the afternoon, but can happen almost anytime. The forecast of rain or a sudden shower is not a reason to cancel a trip. We may delay the start of your trip until the showers move through, in which case you would arrive back at the dock a few minutes late. We try to have adequate, light rain gear onboard in case of showers. You may want to bring something with you in case we have some “Liquid Sunshine.”

Wildlife You’ll See and Fish You Might Catch

There are more than 300 species of wildfowl in our area, including roseate spoonbill, wood stork, brown and white pelican, osprey, anhinga, gannet, loon, cormorant, many types of ibis, heron, egrets, hawks, falcons, grebes, terns, ducks, gulls, plovers, and others. We also have sea turtles and alligators.

Your trip to Florida is not complete until you have fished in the “Fishing Capital of the World!” Although your chances of catching a world-record fish while you are with us is somewhat remote, we have had some fine catches and a lot of fun trying.

Some of the species most commonly caught include sea trout, puffer, redfish, ladyfish, snapper, saltwater catfish, rays, gafftopsail and kingfish. We also have good numbers of blue crab and a few stone crab in our area.
