Chincoteague Island is home to a small band of tight-knit, committed local surfers. Assateague Island offers a pristine beach and fun waves.
The surfing breaks on Assateague Island are mostly sand bars. The surf here gets really good when there is any type of weather disturbance in
the ocean generating swell. On really good swells local surfers will sometimes venture, by boat, to some really good breaks on the nearby barrier
islands. If you are a visiting surfer, you can expect a friendly, welcoming vibe from the local surfers (as long as you are
not overly aggressive in the water).
